Compact and Lightweight Design: Compared to newer, larger phones, the Mi A3's smaller size makes it comfortable to hold and use with one hand. It's also lightweight, making it easy to carry around. Decent Camera Performance in Good Lighting: The camera, while not exceptional, takes decent photos in good lighting conditions. The color reproduction is generally accurate. Affordable Price: When it was initially released, the Mi A3 offered a great value proposition for its price point. Even now, used units are very affordable.
Disadvantages Despite its advantages, the Mi A3 suffers from some notable drawbacks: 720p Display: The biggest disappointment is undoubtedly the 720p AMOLED display. While AMOLED technology delivers vibrant colors and deep blacks, the low resolution makes text and images appear noticeably less sharp compared to 1080p displays. This is especially noticeable when viewing videos or reading text-heavy content. Underpowered Processor: The Snapdragon 665 processor is adequate for basic tasks and light gaming, but it can struggle with more demanding applications or multitasking. I've experienced occasional lag and stuttering, especially when switching between multiple apps. Inconsistent Camera Performance in Low Light: The camera's performance degrades significantly in low light conditions. Images tend to be noisy and lack detail. Slow Charging: While it supports fast charging, the included charger is relatively slow. A full charge can take a considerable amount of time. Software Update Issues: The Mi A3 had a rocky history with Android updates. Several updates were plagued with bugs and had to be rolled back, which caused frustration among users.
Conclusion The Xiaomi Mi A3 is a mixed bag. The clean Android One experience, excellent battery life, and compact design are definite positives. However, the low-resolution display, underpowered processor, and past software update issues are significant drawbacks. While it was a good value for its price at launch, the Mi A3 is now showing its age. If you can live with the 720p display and aren't a power user, it might still be a viable option as a budget phone.
